Kanchanaburi is Thailand's third largest province, covering an area of 19,486, square kilometers. The provincial area is mountainous and borders Myanmar to the west of Bangkok. Kanchanaburi is the site of the world famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, immortalized in books and movies, and is noted for rugged natural beauty where mountains and river valleys have inspired development of hydroelectric power and where labyrinthine reservoirs provide further scenic elements to the province's natural beauty.

Internationally famous the black iron bridge was brought from Java by the Japanese Army during World War II.

 

 
Death Railway
Linking Thailand with Myanmar
constructed by Allied prisoners of war labour during World War II.
The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery (Don Rak)
Contains the remains of 6,982 prisoners of war who perished during the construction of the "Death Railway".

 

 
Sai Yok Noi Waterfall
Kwown as Khao Phang Waterfall, 60 kilometers from town, this road cascade is best visited between July and September when water is most beautifull.
Hanabi Festival
Between the end of November and the beginning of December Hanabi Festival is held every year at Kanchanaburi.
